This luxury cabin is tucked away in the center of Châtel, a pretty ski resort in the heart of Portes du Soleil. It is a one bedroom chalet, making it a very unique property. The foundations and roof were already there when the client purchased it but the building team extended the living space to be double the original size and take up the entire area under the roof making the total size 28m2.
We designed the floor plan taking into consideration all the requirements of the client. He wanted the property to become the perfect mountain retreat for a couple; a completely self contained space for mountain living with a cool, contemporary but cosy vibe.
The open plan kitchen/ living area as shown, is to the right when entering the property which is the side with the best views of the pistes and the picturesque village of Châtel. Here we added floor to ceiling windows to accentuate the view. Through the staggered windows on the other wall you can catch a glimpse of the cows as they wander past in summer.
The sloped roof with high ceilings on one side allowed us to maximize storage in the kitchen. We went for a very contemporary open plan space, particularly for the bedroom area. Off the bedroom there is a large walk in wardrobe and walk in shower/wash area with vanity unit. The toilet door comes off the living area and is sandwiched between the 2 rooms.
We even incorporated an insulated external shed/ski locker/bike storage unit which was very important to the client to have for his sport equipment.
There is a lot of wood in the cabin so for the decor we went for a simple modern black, grey and white colour scheme to give a contrast but keep it simple. We opted for bold patterns in the tiling in the kitchen and shower room to add a bit of fun. For the bedroom we chose a striking large scale black and white mountain photograph by Mario Colonel to create a statement and give it the wow factor.
